It's that magical time of year again, when a giant bunny rabbit drops down the chimney of children who've recently had a tooth fall out, and if he sees his shadow we get two more weeks of winter.
Upon editorial review, it would appear that we're confusing Santa Clause, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and a groundhog. But one can hardly blame us for being a bit giddy--we're going to the 2010 SHOT Show!
For those of you who are reading a gun website but don't know what the SHOT Show is, allows us to explain: It's awesome. Every year, thousands of manufacturers and tens of thousands of people converge on a hapless but large convention center for the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show and Conference. If someone somewhere makes a firearm, they have a booth, and that firearm is on display therein. Things related to firearms, no matter how tangential, are also a part of the show, from meat smokers (gotta do something to preserve what you've just shot and killed) to socks (what, you go to the range barefoot?) to first-aid kits (ricochets happen). Knives also feature prominently because you need something not to bring to a gunfight.
All of the above are crammed into an exhibition hall cheek-to-jowel, like an unending cave of wonders where every step reveals something new and amazing. Charting a straight course across the floor without being sidetracked is nearly impossible. Dehydration and malnutrition are serious dangers. Apparently, there's also a city outside that's full of casinos and entertainment or something.
Whatever.
This is 230grain.com's second trip to SHOT. As with last year, our goal is to bring you coverage of not just the new products on display, but also the unusual, unique, innovative, or unknown. (The way we see it, even if it's been out for years, it's still new if you've never heard of it before.) We even plan to review a pair of socks. We're not kidding.
All of this content ends up on these pages on a daily basis. Check the tabs up top: When one goes gray, the day's new content is live. You don't have to settle for just reading our updates, though. Each update contains a link to our forums, where we've set up a thread for discussion of each day's content. If there's something in particular you'd like to see, post it! We'll happily swing by a booth, take photos of a particular firearm, or ask exhibitors the questions you want answered. Even if you can't be there, we'd like to be there for you. Here is a forum thread where you can make requests for stuff you'd like to see on the first day.
