I know a few of those people, I mean cowards. The thought of a knife in someones hand instantly transforms it into a machette slicing through the calm peaceable society. The mental disconnect doesnt even make any sense, how does a simple folder useful in all facets of daily life become a weapon of serious destruction? They give you shifty looks until they need to eat some crow and ask you to cut, slice, or pry something for them. Then you get 2 seconds of praise and its right back to you being a savage.

I came in to work on a weekend to help out with the office move, and without thinking pulled out my benchmade AFCK to break down some boxes.

The CFO kind of stared at me a little and then said "hey, nice knife"

I switched to a smaller mini-barrage now or sometimes a baby blue griptilian. It is still fun snapping open with the spring assist which can cause some interest but I've never had any negative reactions from it.

Here's an update since my last post in this thread. Keep in mind that my EDC knife isn't all that special aside from the fact that it is cheap, tough as nails, and looks all tacticool.

College: About a week ago, just before a test, someone needed their pencil sharpened and there wasn't a sharpener anywhere in the room. I waited a minute, but eventually offered to sharpen it. I pulled out my knife in the middle of class on a college campus... and simply sharpened her pencil. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. I didn't go on some crazy rampage. Nobody even said anything negative about me carrying a knife or even about pulling one out in class.

Work: I usually empty my pockets onto my desk at work, so my knife usually sits somewhere up there with my laptop. I need it on occasion to open a box or fix something, but most of the time it sits there. Every once in a while someone will ask me why I need such a big knife. I tell them that the serrations are perfect for stripping cables and that it is the ultimate multi-tool. Honestly, it is just a 3-4" folder just like most other EDC knives. Sure it does a great job stripping cables, but as far as knives go it'll do just fine for self-defense too. In that regard, it is my multi-tool of choice.

Having said all of that, I recently purchased a Gerber fixed-blade and i absolutely love it. Convenience is the only reason I prefer to carry the folder. Now the Gerber stays in my car so that I have a more substantial tool not far away if needed.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me regarding the original post I made about the Kershaw. I'll pretend it is and answer in that context...

I still love that little knife. I swapped the pocket clip with a mini-torx driver so that it rides in the ready. I didn't do it so much for "tactical" reasons as for convince. I also used a dremmel to grind off the thumb tab on the pants pocket side of the boss because it was useless to me and rubbing holes in my slacks.

In short, the Kershaw Storm is still highly recommend.
