Special guest article.

How to make your wife happy by not talking about firearms all the time.

-Guest writer Mrs. Clinotus.

My husband talks about guns all the time, literally all the time. As I sit here writing this article I find myself focusing on the television, the cats, and the paint on the walls. If you grew up like I did with Charlie Brown, you'll understand the next paragraph which is a direct translation of what he is saying right now as I type this:

Guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, tomorrow I'll have to move the kitchen table over, guns, guns, guns, guns, would you mind if I clean my guns on kitchen table because guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, if I wear these pants then guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns........guns.

My husband brings guns up into every conversation possible, dressing for a wedding, dressing for a funeral, talking about schooling for the kids, talking about walks, walking downtown in the daytime, walking downtown at nightime, grocery shopping, talking about our cats or the possibility of feral cats.

I have to be fair. Sometimes he doesn't talk about guns. Sometimes its the reverse gun conversation where guns can't be carried, cleaned, admired, or dreamt about. At those times we move to knives, mace, good lighting, flashlights, flashlights with bezels, and whistles. But all that means nothing because guns are great for keeping defensive distance and confrontational dominance so we move back to guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, guns, and of course GUNS.

Here is my solution:

Wow. Don, you're a lucky guy. Even when complaining about you she manages slip guns into the conversation. I gotta meet this special lady! [wink]

My wife has stopped asking me what I'm thinking about. Seems like she figured out the answer never changes.

I get one of two reactions, either silence or she goes to another room.
