Whats with the spent shell-casings mister "i dont fire my big fuckoff revolver" :durr:
I have to set the scene if you will:
I rose this morning as crooks and thieves slunk back to their shelters from the bright light of the heavens and the law. With whiskers still on my face from a hastened shaving ritual I entered the ammo room selecting a few rounds each of 45 Long Colt, .454 Casull, and lastly, the reason for the revolver itself: Some 460.
My pre-trip to the range was uneventful pardoning three little birds that sung on my doorstep as I left. When I got to the range I set up at a makeshift table, opened the suitcase, oohed and awed over the cannon and then quickly got down to business. I swapped out the jacketed compensator for the lead compensator in about 2 seconds and 8 seconds later started the long walk down the range.
I loaded the revolver with the 45 Long Colt approached the berm and slowly brought the 460 up to eye level for my first shot. And it was over just like that. The 45 Long Colts felt like .22s, they must have been like flies buzzing at the base of the berm because for a moment I knew the berm was laughing at me. In time.
Mistake #1.
I walked back to the bench and swapped out the compensator. As I approached the berm I heard the rift from ZZtops La grange whispering in my ear. I brought it up eye level, leveled out and pulled that trigger back like a pimp about to retrieve a missing $20.
Mistake #2.
Normally I don't wear safety goggles, I realize I should and nine times out of ten they are in my bag, one mag in I remember to don them and do so. Its a bad habit. Today like most days I didn't have them on.
Mistake #3.
Without further rambling we can suffice to say that I overconfidently walked up to the berm with the 460 loaded with the 460 S&W Magnums, brought it up to bear and pulled that hammer back. Everything shifted. My face and eyes burned from the massive dump of power and powder, my hand felt like it got kicked by a mule and my ears rang like freedom.
I opened and stuck my fingers though the action and walked back to the bench to grab my glasses, double up on the ear protection and lastly to feel my face which was now clean shaven. I returned to the berm and sent 4 rounds deep into the target and straight into Oil Well territory as those rounds certainly drilled into the earth. My target was no where to be found and well what else was I to do?
All in all it was awesome.

Well now highmeh that sure is a Colt D-frame. Detective Special, Cobra, or Agent?
1956 Detective Special with a 2" barrel. For $325, I couldn't pass it up. Timing is great, cylinder locks up tight, holster wear but very little actual use. 8 more days.
The line on the cylinder is a bad thing though, right?
No, that's fairly normal.

The line on the cylinder is a bad thing though, right?
No, I see why you're asking but since the line goes all the way between the stops it probably just means the previous owner had a habit of rotating it the wrong way into lock-up after closing the cylinder.

I haven't shot IDPA .....yet.
I bought this because I wanted a revolver, the trigger is awesome, and I got a good price for it.
One of the things I have been meaning to do is IDPA. Sadly there is not a club around me so I would have to drive about 1.5 hours to do it.
Secondly, I need to figure out what pistol classification I want to do. I could do CDP, ESP, or SSR with the handguns I own(1911, FNP SAO 9mm ,686ssr respectively).
Can people shoot in multiple classifications?

Man, that 340PD...ouch! I shot my dad's scandium .357 once, and even with Crimson Trace grips over the backstrap, using it for self defense would involve a difficult choice: "On one hand, this guy is trying to stab me. On the other hand, shooting him would require firing this gun..."
To contribute, some random revolver photos:
Remington 1858 cap-and-ball in .44:

Another .44, albeit slightly more modern. Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum:

S&W Model 60, an early version not rated for +P:
http://how-i-did-it.org/revolvers/img/check.jpg
http://how-i-did-it.org/revolvers/img/internals2.jpg
This last image is a bit outdated, as I now use Buffalo Bore standard-pressure 158 grain LSWCHPs.
http://how-i-did-it.org/revolvers/img/m60_ammo.jpg
Finally, one of my favorites, a K22. This sucker was modified for some German pistol shooting team and combines in one revolver the best DA and SA triggers I've ever felt. It's so accurate that at 25 yards, shooting DA, you can choose which end of the pop can to hit. The downside? The forcing cone gap is so tight that the cylinder will start binding within the first hundred rounds.

yeah it's a bit on the painful side to shoot. when it gets range time i don't fire too much .357 through it, the .38 special is alot more enjoyable in that little cannon.
