As you can tell this rifle is not new, but was new in box. The cardboard tube is still present and upon inspection the buffer only showed the factory firing test.

Otherwise it is unfired.

Very nice! How does it balance? What's the barrel profile?

Its not as heavy as it looks, nice weight to it overall. Its the government profile under those handguards, it also lacks a fence around the magazine release.

A guy I work with wants to trade me an HBAR A2 for a collection of WW2 vintage patches I have. My friend who owns several AR's said he had one and really didn't like the way it shot. I used to carry a Colt M16A2 at work and it felt like a great sporting rifle.

An HBAR would probably make a great High Power rifle, but I could see it being very front-heavy.

It really was NIB. Now I get why this is a safe queen.
Sweet, you can shoot mine instead. :) Good selection of emoticons in these parts too.

The original Colt AR-15 Sporter had been on the market since 1963, but interest in it was mainly confined to military gun buffs and military veterans. Attempts to make the AR-15 into a serious target shooting rifle had largely failed, although this was mainly because of the lack of ammunition that would enable the AR-15 to compete at longer ranges successfully.

This has turned around a bit, at least at my local High Power matches where the range is limited to 200 yards. The AR shooters tend to spank the crusty codger contingent with their .30 caliber wood-stocked guns, which is possibly related to the fact that a stock M1 Garand weighs less than some of the HBAR rifle-length ARs with lead in their butt!

At least I'm almost always the M14 high scorer. (The fact that I'm usually also the only M14 shooter should in no way diminish this victory.)
