Since I dont want to hotlink to them and drive up any traffic hits for the website you can grab the document here: Click here to download (http://230grain.com/images/articles/misc/2008-ccw-crimes-misdeeds.pdf)

The opener states:
The gun lobby claims that only “law-abiding citizens” receive carrying-concealed weapons (CCW) licenses, and that because licensees are “law abiding,” having more people carrying loaded, hidden firearms will make society safer. Both claims are patently false.

I have to give it to them, I agree completely...but only with the portion I bolded. No need to refresh your browser or change your screen settings, nothing has been bolded.

The basis of their argument here is that "...only law-abiding citizens receive carrying-concealed weapons (CCW) licenses", however later in the same document they state: [concerning Florida's 1987 CCW law]
From those files, we found that, up to that point, 897 Florida CCW license holders had their licenses revoked, and 304 of those revocations were for the commission of crimes by the licensee before issuance.

So much for a substantial and unbiased viewpoint. 33% of the 897 should not have been 'granted' licenses in the first place. Luckily I can stop this argument here as they did not provide the data for which percentage the 897 came from over a 21 year period.

Read the document for such gems as:

Columbus, OH • April 30, 2008. Derrick Foster, 38, shot at a team of police officers who attempted to break through the barricaded door of a neighborhood dice game. The officers, two of whom were wounded, one seriously, were part of a tactical drug investigation unit and announced their presence before Foster opened fire. Foster, who initially believed the officers to be robbers, surrendered when he saw the police team as he attempted to escape with his weapon through a basement window.

Please ignore any correlation with Mr. Foster stating he initially thought the dice game was being robbed, or that he surrendered after seeing the robbers were actually police.

Fairfax County, VA • April 26, 2005. Timothy D. Fudd, a teacher in Fairfax County, VA, was charged with carrying a loaded handgun in his car onto the property of Westfield High School in violation of Virginia law.37

Prince William County, Maryland • October 3, 2004. Michael G. Fouche accidentally left his handgun in the bag of supplies taken to school by his special-needs son. Mr. Fouche, charged with allowing children access to firearms, took full responsibility for the mistake after the school discovered the weapon.

Louisville, Kentucky • August 10, 2004. U.S. Rep. John Hostettler (R-IN, 8th Dist.) pled guilty to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed deadly weapon into Louisville International Airport in April. Rep. Hostettler agreed to a discharged 60-day jail sentence conditional on his good behavior over the following two years, and had to surrender his semi-automatic handgun.
In the 2006 election the NRA gave Rep. Hostettler an A grade and endorsed him for reelection.

Tulsa, OK • April 27, 2007. Phillip Wayne Stephenson, who had been driving with his wife and another passenger, exited his vehicle when a pedestrian passed in front of the car. He became engaged in a physical confrontation with another man. Stephenson returned to his car to retrieve
a pistol. During the altercation, which then recommenced, Stephenson’s gun discharged, shooting the victim through the torso.

Tulsa, OK • June 10, 2007. Kenneth Ray Gumm, 67, a retired security guard and CCW licensee, shot and killed another man in a “road rage” incident. The victim had been tailgating Gumm. After both men pulled into a parking lot there was a verbal altercation, during which the victim shoved Gumm’s shoulder. Gumm shot the victim in the chest from a distance of several feet.19

To be fair there are some bad incidents in the report, but I think its more or less fair to say those are incidents of human behavior, the firearm as the tool used...was just that, a tool used for the aggression.

Those people would be hilarious if they weren't so dangerous. As it is, people will believe them over NRA reports that are far more factual. Because, you know, CORPORATIONS and LOBBYISTS.
