The M26 Modular Accessory Shotgun System (above) is a 12-gauge that can be used alone or attached to an M4 carbine with a clamp (1). The clip (2) holds five lethal or nonlethal rounds. The barrel is 7-3/4-in.-long alloy steel, threaded to receive a device (3) that ensures a 3-in. gap from the muzzle when using breaching rounds to blast open doors. Troops tested the weapon’s experimental predecessor in combat for a year, and reported trouble reaching the pump to reload. Designers switched to a straight-pull bolt action (4). Nearly 40,000 of the 4-pound, 3-ounce (stand-alone) shotguns will be delivered to the Army early next year.

I know this is lame, but I think this gun appears in Rainbow 6: Vegas.

God, that would hurt like hell.

I might not be high speed enough, but is that thing really needed? Is it recoil operated? It looks cheap as hell to make.

Paging Flanker, aka "The Locksmith of Kandahar," to this thread for practical and battle-tested input on a Combat Shotgun...

I just want to know if there will be a long barrel civilian version. That thing looks interesting, at the very least.

That is a M26 MASS (Modular Accessory Shotgun System) that was developed by C-More Systems and manufactured by Vertu Corporation in response to an urgent need from soldiers heading to Afghanistan. Soldiers wanted a lightweight system that could eliminate the need to carry an additional weapon when serving in door-breaching missions, and delivering less-lethal alternatives.

You need to see it undermounted to an M4. It does serve as a standalone, similar to the original post. A Bad Mutha and all business.

Looks a little ungainly mounted on an M4.

Knight's Armament Corp. made a nice fitting Remington 870 Short-Barrel under the M16 in the 80's
